A welcome trend of the last years are the hardware expansions for all Ataris and online stores which offer these expansions. Lotharek is working on a real classic: the expansion to 4 MB RAM for all classic ST computers. "Heron" is described by him as an inexpensive expansion. A RAM chip has to be removed and the Heron board has to be fixed under the Shifter chip. Then the motherboard RAM chips are disabled and the Heron board is connected with six wires. A RAM upgrade is quite reasonable, even if most ST programs are content with 1 MB RAM, because auto-folder programs like NVDI or accessories also eat up memory.
Lotharek, meanwhile, seems to have taken a fancy to birds lately: Besides Heron, he is working on the SRAM module "Sparrow". Sparrow won't end up on the Atari, though, but is intended for the C64. Atari's Sparrow (project name of the Falcon) gets the 14MB expansion Vulture for it. So keep your eyes open when buying a bird in Lotharek's store....
