Apple has revamped its product line and made it faster. Apple CEO Steve Jobs unveiled new iMacs and Power Mac G4 models in his traditional keynote at the Macworld Expo in New York, which begins today. The iMac is now available with a choice of 500, 600 or 700 MHz, whereby only the smallest model does not yet have a CD-RW drive as standard. Prices range from just under DM 2500 (500 MHz G3, CD-ROM, 64 MB RAM) to just under DM 4000 (700 MHz G3, CD-RW, 256 MB RAM). To the disappointment of many Apple fans, a brand-new iMac with TFT display is still a long time coming - various PC suppliers have left Apple far behind in terms of innovation in the home office.
The Power Macintosh G4 is now available with clock speeds up to 867 MHz. The three models (733 MHz to 867 MHz) have CD-RW or even DVD-R drives. The prices range from just under DM 4500 to just under DM 9300. All G4 computers have a revised, slimmer design in the noble "Quicksilver" colour in common. After the Powerbook and iBook, Apple's professional machine now also shimmers in noble silver.
