Another previously unreleased game for the classic Atari VCS 2600 game console, Thwocker Two, has surfaced. The Activision game was originally developed by Charlie Heath and is said to be 80% complete. If possible, the ROM content should be made available soon. (tr)

Animator 0.20.2 (12.08.2001 - 03:10 Uhr)

Animator is a video player for the formats AVI, MOV and FLI or FLC. It can also play sound files in WAV format. The French development group "The Removers" has now released version 0.20.2 of the program, which is available in English and French. The Atari Falcon 030 as well as the Atari TT (also graphic cards) with colour depths of 15 or 16 bit are supported. The current beta version is available for download as freeware. (tr)

Combat Two for VCS 2600 (08.08.2001 - 10:10 Uhr)

More than 20 years Atari enthusiasts had to wait until Combat Two was released for the legendary classic game console VCS 2600. A few years ago, a prototype of this game was found, and since then rumours have persisted that Combat Two would soon be offered. Retrodesign now made this dream come true and produced 250 copies of the cartridge, which comes complete with packaging and instructions. The artwork of the packaging was strongly based on the original and is a treat in itself.

Combat Two will be available for the first time at this weekend's "Classic Gaming Expo 2001" in Las Vegas. Screenshots and first impressions can be found on the website of the "Atari Gaming Headquarter". The price for a cartridge is US-$ 30. (tr)

The ASMA Music Archive is a collection of music tracks created on the Atari XL or XE. Version 2.0 of the archive contains over 1050 pieces of XL-/XE hits. A new strategy game for the Atari Falcon is currently in development. The game is to be based on games like Conquest Of Elysium, Age Of Wonder and Heroes. At the moment they are urgently looking for more graphic artists to realise the project. There are already enough coders and musicians. Possibly the new game will also run on Milan and Hades. (tr)

From now on, the invers RTF import/export driver for Calamus SL supports the import of footnotes which are directly integrated into the Calamus text frame. invers Software thus implemented a request of many Calamus users. After importing the corresponding RTF text, the text frame contains all corresponding formatting and the footnote numbers according to your specifications from "Word" or corresponding programs. The footnote texts end up in the footnote text frames you have provided for this purpose. A guide to the RTF import/export driver explains the procedure quickly and easily. For all those who already had the RTF import/export driver v2.0, a free update will be made available shortly. If you are still working with the import version v1.0 or the ancient RTF driver from DMC, you should take advantage of the favourable upgrade prices. Until the end of August 2001, the cheaper summer price for new purchases is still valid. A demo version is available for testing before purchase.

Furthermore, the first module demos of the much more powerful Indexer PRO are ready. You can find them now in the download area of invers Software. The demo version accepts a maximum of 10 entries per index. If you have not yet worked with the Indexer or if you have not yet discovered the improvements of v2.0 compared to the first version, you should definitely take a look at the demo version now. With this professional tool, you can get to grips with your large publications in a targeted manner and achieve complex keyword directories - even with 2-level hierarchies. At the same time, the Indexer PRO also works very quickly and across multiple files, so that you can provide even the largest publications with professional keyword lists very quickly.

CD Writer Suite v3.2 (03.08.2001 - 01:10 Uhr)

The CD Writer Suite from Anodyne Software is now available in version 3.2. It is a complete package consisting of driver software, a backup system and the actual Writer software. Numerous new features are offered, including support for the MP3 format (together with Aniplayer) and the CD Extra file format. Performance on CenTurbo 2 systems has been significantly improved. The backup program can now work automatically with several CDs if the data does not fit on one medium.

Also new is ExtenDOS Gold, which is available in version 3.3D. Besides numerous bug fixes, some new features have been added. For example, the SCSIDRV interface is now supported. This means that ExtenDOS can use all SCSI or ATAPI CD-ROMs and recorders that work with SCSIDRV. The program CDaudio also received an improved user interface. Both updates are freely downloadable.

Bugfix for Joe 1.48 (02.08.2001 - 09:10 Uhr)

For the current version 1.48 of the HTML editor Joe, a bug fix is now available on Rajah Lone's homepage. The bugfix "B3" can also be used for the localised version. X11-Server/GEM Version 0.12 (01.08.2001 - 12:10 Uhr)

The X11 server allows the use of X11 programs under GEM and MiNT. Version 0.12 is now available for free download on the portal site FreeMiNT.de. It requires a TOS computer with at least an 030 CPU, 10 MB RAM, FreeMiNT version 1.15.6 or higher, NVDI version 4.1 or higher and N.AES, XaAES or AES version 4.1 or higher. However, a complete MiNTnet setup is not required. (tr)

Interview with Leonard Tramiel (01.08.2001 - 08:10 Uhr)

The American website ClassicGaming.com published an interview with Leonard Tramiel, who worked as Vice President of Advanced Technology under his father Jack at Atari from 1984 - 1996. The interview is an excerpt from a longer conversation Martin Goldberg had while working on his upcoming book about the history of Atari.
